Interior designer and event planner Rachid Ouassil transformed his life-long passion and eye for design into two successful businesses: Sheherazade Home and Sheherazade Rental & Event Design. In 2000 he opened Sheherazade, a home décor boutique, on New York City’s Lower East Side. From its coveted address on Orchard Street, the store became a destination for architects, interior designers, stylists, set designers and event planners seeking one-of-a-kind furnishings, textiles, lighting, decorative objects and antiques. Ouassil traveled around the globe, including India, Turkey and his native Morocco, sourcing each piece himself and eventually collaborating with artisans to create his own designs. His penchant for color and boldness earned features in ELLE DECOR, The New York Times, Architectural Digest and Vogue.
Sheherazade Event Design was born in 2007 when demand for Ouassil’s talent for creating beautiful weddings, bridal showers, corporate events and parties grew. Since then, he and his team have created Instagram-worthy events including parties in Marrakech and weddings in East Hampton, New York. Like the philosophy behind the boutique, events are sourced, styled and staged using curated items from around the world.
